Clear braces Dublin FAQ’s

What are the advantages of Clear Braces?

One of the key factors for patients is visual, and clear braces are almost invisible which means visually there is little or no difference to your current smile which will indicate you are having orthodontic work done.

The aligners are also removable which enables you to eat and drink more easily unlike the traditional braces which are fixed to your teeth. Brushing and flossing are unaffected as you will be able to access your teeth without any issue which enables you to keep a good oral hygiene programme during the process of aligning your teeth.

As the name indicates there are no visual impediments which you find with traditional braces.

How do Clear Braces work?

The clear braces that are manufactured by Bio Tech Dental France will align your crooked teeth with a continous pressure. The teeth that need moving are moved with a controlled amount from each aligner. Each aligner you have will affect the teeth in a pre-planned manner to achieve the goal of straight teeth and wonderful smile.

You may only want to adjust 1-2 teeth in your smile but to achieve this it is not unusual for the treatment to require the movement of six other teeth so that the one or two teeth you require to be adjusted all fit into place.

The aligner must be quite strong to move my teeth?

Bio Tech Dental France manufacture the aligner with the correct medical grade thermoplastic which they have developed in their DentoSmile programme.

Each aligner is custom made for you and you alone so that they fit onto your teeth and in your mouth snugly and without irritation.

Does the dentist I see have training?

All Clear Braces Ireland dentists are trained by Bio Tech Dental France in the application of the invisible aligners. The training enables the dentist to examine a potential patient and be in the position to know which patients are suitable for invisible aligners and which patients will require more traditional orthodontic treatment.

How often to I have to have appointments?

The usual interval between appointment is around sixe week, as each aligner will be used for three weeks before the next one is placed. Our dentist will give you enough aligners for six weeks. The follow up appointments are usually about 20 minutes while the dentist checks on your progress, oral hygiene and overall well being. You will then be issued your next set of clear braces.

Does the treatment take long?

This is solely based on each patients requirement. The length of treatment will be from nine months to eighteen months which is comparable to traditional braces but without the hassle of wire and brackets.  Our dentist will discuss the potential length of the treatment prior to starting.

Will the treatment hurt?

You may have some minor temporary discomfort for several days as each clear brace is used by you. The feeling our patients describe the discomfort as is usually classified as ‘pressure’ which the new aligner will exert. This is also an indicator that the aligners are working by moving your teeth gradually to achieve the results you require.  Again this discomfort is usually for several days at the beginning of each new aligner.

Is there a minimum age for clear braces?

I hear that after my treatment I still have to wear a retainer?

You will want your teeth to stay in their new locations and the retainer is the best way to maintain this. Our Clear Braces Ireland dentist will advise you on what is the best way forward. In most cases the final invisible aligner will also act as a temporary retainer until you and the dentist decide on the retention option you feel is right for you. I have crowns and a bridge, is this a problem for clear braces?

Crowns which you might have are no really barrier for clear braces, however a bridge between two or more teeth can be problematic as bridges are resistant to movement.  Other issues such as composite crowns need to be examined as they are bonded on to your teeth and when certain levels of movement are required they act as blocks.
